Mangupura — Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa said on Oct. 2 that Badung Regency was seeking support for infrastructure financing as the regency prepared approximately IDR 2.8 trillion (about US$168 million) in regional borrowing for strategic road sections. The plan is intended to address severe traffic bottlenecks and strengthen connections between tourism areas.

The financing request was discussed as Badung pursued faster infrastructure development in Bali. Reports said the proposed borrowing would support roads in the regency, with the central government being asked to help address infrastructure needs linked to national roads and major tourism destinations.

Why Badung’s road plan matters to visitors and foreign residents

For visitors, the plan concerns journeys through southern Badung and other heavily traveled tourism corridors, where congestion can affect access between destinations. For foreign residents, it signals that road and connectivity projects may remain a significant part of local planning as traffic grows faster than road capacity in busy areas.

The reported financing is separate from the practical effect of any completed road project: borrowing approval, land acquisition, construction and staged disbursement determine when routes become usable. The reports identify the funding as a regional-loan scheme rather than an immediate change to travel rules or entry requirements.

Earlier reporting described Badung’s broader effort to improve connectivity in central and southern parts of the regency. The proposed corridors include routes connecting tourism areas and links to existing strategic roads. The stated objective is to reduce pressure at congestion bottlenecks while improving movement between districts and destinations.

Badung’s request places the regency’s road program within a wider discussion about infrastructure financing in Bali. The reports do not establish that the planned borrowing has already produced new road capacity, nor do they give a completion date for the package described on Oct. 2.
