Gianyar — The Karya Agung ceremony at Pura Agung Manukaya Let was held on Oct. 3, 2026, returning after 48 years. The previous ceremony was held in 1978, according to Balipost.
The ceremony took place in Desa Adat Manukaya Let, Desa Manukaya, Gianyar. Its peed and Nyenuk procession involved about 2,000 participants walking in the procession. The event brought together six customary villages: Manukaya Let, Calo, Penempahan, Tegal Payang, Malet and Penyolasan Timbul.
A major communal ceremony for Gianyar’s customary villages
The ceremony’s sequence included Ngenteg Linggih, Labuh Gentuh, Pecaruan Agung and Mendem Pedagingan. These elements formed part of the Karya Agung ceremony held at the temple on Oct. 3, 2026, after the previous ceremony in 1978.
The report said the ceremony’s full temple-community involvement reached nearly 15,000 people when the krama pengempon were included. The wider figure therefore covered people beyond the approximately 2,000 participants involved in the peed and Nyenuk procession.
For visitors and foreign residents, the event reflects the scale of customary religious ceremonies in Bali. Participation can extend beyond the people visible in the procession, involving multiple customary villages and large temple communities. The report identifies the ceremony as a local religious and cultural observance in Gianyar rather than a change to an administrative rule.
