How many tourists visit East Nusa Tenggara? The latest annual provincial dataset reports 1,840,488 total tourist visits in 2025, counting both international and domestic visits to regencies and tourist attractions. Monthly BPS data also recorded 25,155 international arrivals in July 2025, showing that the province’s tourism market is much broader than foreign visitors alone.

What does the 2025 total count?

The figure of 1,840,488 is the 2025 total in a dataset maintained by the East Nusa Tenggara Tourism and Creative Economy Office, according to the province’s Satu Data portal, updated on March 12, 2026. Its definition combines international and domestic tourist visits to regencies and tourist attractions.

The figure is therefore a measure of visits, not a count of unique people. A person making more than one qualifying visit can contribute more than once to the total, although the dataset does not provide a separate unique-person estimate.

How many foreign visitors does NTT receive?

Foreign arrivals through NTT’s recorded entry points reached 25,155 visits in July 2025, according to Statistics Indonesia, or BPS, NTT, in its September 1, 2025 release. That was 21.43 percent higher than June 2025 and 109.71 percent higher than July 2024.

Land crossings accounted for 83.61 percent of July 2025 foreign arrivals, while air entry accounted for 15.10 percent and sea entry for 1.29 percent, according to BPS NTT, 2025. The largest source markets listed were Timor-Leste and Malaysia, alongside Indonesians living abroad for more than a year.

Why is the annual total larger than the foreign-arrival figure?

The two figures count different things. The annual provincial total includes domestic and international visits across tourist attractions and regencies, while the BPS monthly figure counts foreign visits through recorded immigration entry points.

Domestic travel is a major part of the market: BPS NTT reported that 91.95 percent of trips in July 2025 were made by travellers from within the province. That means foreign-arrival statistics alone cannot describe the scale of tourism activity in Flores, Sumba, Timor, Rote or other destinations across NTT.

What do the figures mean for tourism in Flores and beyond?

The data show why tourism planning in East Nusa Tenggara needs to account for both visitor flows. Labuan Bajo and Komodo-related travel may draw international attention, but the provincial count also covers domestic movement and attractions across the wider island region.

The provincial dataset’s 2025 total and BPS’s July 2025 entry-point statistics are not directly interchangeable: one is an annual destination-visit measure, while the other is a monthly border-arrival measure. They should be read together as different indicators of tourism scale.
