Klungkung Officials Lead Plastic Cleanup Along Unda River

Klungkung — The Klungkung regency government held a plastic-waste cleanup along the Unda River and around the Bali Cultural Centre in Desa Tangkas on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, with hundreds of civil servants taking part.

The operation focused on the area around Jembatan Merah and the jogging-track section of the riverbank. Participants worked along both sides of the area to collect plastic waste that had accumulated beside the river.

Shared responsibility extends beyond government crews

The cleanup was presented as a reminder that river cleanliness cannot be left only to the government or sanitation workers. Residents also have a role, including by disposing of waste properly and helping prevent plastic from accumulating again.

Klungkung Regent I Made Satria led the activity. The cleanup was initiated by the Klungkung Environmental and Land Agency, known locally as DLHP Klungkung, as part of follow-up action to a Bali Provincial Government directive connected with the Tumpek Wayang observance.

For residents and visitors, the message is practical: the riverbank and the Bali Cultural Centre area are shared public spaces, and keeping them free of plastic depends on everyday conduct as well as official cleanups. The activity also underscored that a one-day operation is not a substitute for sustained public awareness and responsible waste disposal.
