Mount Agung — Authorities and temple representatives will close all routes to Mount Agung’s summit from 21 October to 5 November 2026 for the Pujawali Purnama Kalima ceremony at Pura Pasar Agung Besakih Giri Tohlangkir.

Why it matters: Visitors, guides and trekking operators cannot conduct or facilitate Mount Agung summit climbs from 21 October through 5 November 2026; reopening is scheduled for 6 November.

The closure was announced on 19 October by I Wayan Suara Arsana of Pura Pasar Agung’s public-relations team, according to Detik Bali. He said the measure is intended to preserve the sanctity of the Mount Agung area and allow the religious proceedings to take place smoothly and solemnly.

The East Bali Forest Management Unit has also issued an advisory banning ascents during the ceremony. The advisory applies to hikers, guides and trekking operators, who are asked not to climb, permit, receive or facilitate summit expeditions during the closure, Detik Bali reported.

NusaBali reported that the closure will last 16 days and that climbing is scheduled to resume on 6 November. The report said the restriction applies without exception to routes leading to Mount Agung’s summit.

The closure concerns access for climbing and trekking. It does not establish a permanent ban on Mount Agung activities, and the sources describe it as a temporary measure linked to the ceremony.

  • All summit routes are closed from 21 October through 5 November 2026.
