Around 300 clean waste from Badung mangroves

Badung — Around 300 people joined a World Cleanup Day operation at Pantai Telagawaja in the Tahura Ngurah Rai mangrove forest, Kuta Selatan, Badung, on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.

The operation, titled World Cleanup Day 2026: Aksi Bersih Pemuda-Pemudi Kabupaten Badung, was organized by the Badung Regency Government. Participants came from government institutions, regional leadership bodies, vertical agencies, businesses, environmental communities, customary villages, fishing groups, students and youth organizations.

Organizers said the collected waste would be weighed and separated into organic, inorganic, plastic and residual categories. It would then be processed through waste-management facilities and partner foundations under a sustainable-management concept.

Why the cleanup matters to visitors and residents

The activity took place in a mangrove area that forms part of a prominent coastal environment in southern Bali. For foreign residents and visitors, the operation shows how local authorities and community groups are responding to waste in a public coastal destination, while also identifying the different waste streams before further processing.

The Badung government also said it had installed nets in the area. Bagus Surya Suamba, the Badung regional secretary, said rapid-response teams from several agencies would be involved to help ensure that the mangrove area was fully cleaned.
