Denpasar — Bali’s traditional calendar identifies Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, as an unsuitable day for building a house, weddings and cremation-related rites under the Carik Walangati classification.

The guidance appears in the daily ala ayuning dewasa, a traditional assessment of whether a date is considered favorable or unfavorable for particular activities. The calculation draws on elements of Bali’s calendar, including wuku, sasih, panglong and alahing dewasa, and is used as a cultural reference for Hindu ceremonies and other significant decisions.

For a foreign resident or visitor in Bali, the entry is not a general construction or marriage prohibition issued by the government. It describes a customary timing consideration that may affect locally organized ceremonies, religious observances and consultations with customary authorities. The reports state that the Carik Walangati classification covers pernikahan or wiwaha, atiwa-tiwa or ngaben, and house building.

Why it matters to readers in Bali

The calendar can shape the timing of ceremonies involving Balinese Hindu families and communities. A wedding, cremation-related rite or house-building ceremony may therefore be planned with reference to local religious and customary expectations, even when participants include people from outside Bali. The classification also records other date-specific cautions: the same day is unsuitable for roofing a house, melaspas or blessing a new building, and farming under the Geni Rawana guidance.

Reports describe ala ayuning dewasa as guidance rather than a standalone legal order. For important rituals, Balipost says people are generally advised to consult a local pemangku adat, or customary religious authority, so that the date fits the spiritual and local context. The calendar entry gives Carik Walangati an alahing dewasa value of 3.
