Bali — Vehicles with odd-numbered license plates are eligible to buy Pertalite across Bali on Monday, Oct. 19, the final reported day of a three-day odd-even fuel schedule introduced to reduce queues at filling stations.
The rule applies to motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles. Pertalite purchases are capped at 20 liters for four-wheeled vehicles and three liters for motorcycles. Ambulances and fire engines receive priority at filling stations, while trucks are permitted to refuel only at night, according to reports on the arrangement.
Why it matters to readers
For foreign residents and visitors using a rented or locally registered vehicle, eligibility depends on the final digit of the vehicle’s license plate, not on the driver’s nationality. On Monday, only plates ending in an odd number fall within the reported schedule. The restriction concerns Pertalite, a subsidized fuel sold at Indonesian filling stations, rather than a general ban on road travel.
The policy began Saturday, Oct. 17, with odd-numbered plates, followed Sunday, Oct. 18, by even-numbered plates, before returning to odd-numbered plates on Monday. The arrangement covers filling stations throughout Bali and was reported as a joint measure involving the Bali provincial government and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.
The measure comes amid fuel queues in Bali. A report from Jembrana said the odd-even system had begun reducing lines, although several stations in Negara and surrounding areas again ran out of fuel. The reported schedule ends Monday, Oct. 19; no later continuation was stated in the cited reports.
