Klungkung — The TOSS Center in Kusamba, Klungkung, is being considered as a model for waste management in other regions, with its four pyrolysis machines targeted to process around 26 to 30 tonnes of waste a day. The facility produces alternative fuel, including diesel-like fuel, as well as briquettes known as green coal.

The proposal followed a visit on Oct. 3 by Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, Indonesia’s environment minister, who reviewed the machines and their output with Klungkung Regent I Made Satria. The Klungkung administration developed the technology with PT Inpac Solution Indo and PT Bali Bersih Bersinar.

Why the Klungkung facility matters to other regions

Pyrolysis converts waste into products that can be used as fuel or alternative energy. At TOSS Center, each machine has a stated capacity of 750 kilograms of waste. With four machines, the facility is targeted to process around 26 to 30 tonnes daily, while organic material that is pressed into briquettes becomes green coal.

For residents and visitors in Bali, the project is relevant because it links waste disposal with local energy production. The facility’s potential as a regional model depends not only on its technical capacity but also on whether industries will use the resulting fuel and briquettes. The reports describe the products as having economic potential, but do not establish that the facility has become a full-scale commercial solution.

The proposal also places Klungkung within a wider discussion about how Indonesian regions manage waste. The facility is located in Desa Kusamba, in Dawan district, and the technology is being presented as a possible approach for other areas. The reports do not state a timetable for wider replication.
