Lombok Barat — Salme, a 66-year-old man from Golong Village, Narmada District, was found dead in the Darmesabe River in Lombok Barat, West Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, 2026, after failing to return from the rice fields.

The change comes as Indonesian authorities continue to record the risks faced by residents working near rivers and agricultural areas. Salme had left home at about 6:30 a.m. WITA (UTC+8) on a motorcycle and went to the rice fields. When he had not returned by late afternoon, his son began searching around the fields in Darmesabe Hamlet, Keru Village.

Salme was found face down in the river at about 7:15 p.m. WITA. Police said he was believed to have died roughly one to two hours before he was found. He was taken to Sedau Community Health Center, where a doctor found several injuries, including a laceration to his head.

Why it matters to readers in Lombok Barat

The case illustrates the practical danger of working or travelling close to fast-moving or rocky waterways after dark. For foreign residents and visitors, the location details also show that the incident occurred in a rural part of Narmada District rather than at a tourist site. The report does not indicate that foreigners were involved.

Initial findings suggested that Salme may have slipped from the riverbank and struck rocks. His family accepted the incident and declined an autopsy, according to Narmada Police Chief First Inspector I Putu Wirawan.

No further police action or investigation was stated in the report.
