Lombok Barat — Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported a magnitude-5.2 earthquake in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, at 3:15:26 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on 7 October 2026.
Why it matters: Travellers and residents in Lombok and nearby islands faced a felt earthquake on 7 October, while BMKG reported no tsunami threat.
BMKG placed the earthquake 14 kilometres southeast of West Lombok at a depth of 92 kilometres and said its tsunami modelling showed no tsunami potential. The agency’s listed coordinates were 8.77 degrees south and 116.14 degrees east.
The Bali Provincial Disaster Management Agency reproduced BMKG’s initial earthquake listing, which placed the event nine kilometres southeast of West Lombok and recorded it at 2:15:26 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. BMKG’s later event page gave the updated location as 14 kilometres southeast and reported the event time as 3:15:26 a.m.
BMKG said the earthquake was felt in several areas of Lombok and Sumbawa. An initial report from Tempo said there were no reports of damage or casualties at the time of publication.
BMKG later described the event as having an updated magnitude of 5.0, with an updated depth of 82 kilometres and an epicentre on land 14 kilometres southeast of West Lombok. The agency also recorded one aftershock measuring magnitude 1.3 by 3:45 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.
The event occurred in the same region as the Bali tourism corridor, but BMKG reported no tsunami threat. The available official earthquake information therefore indicates a felt earthquake without a tsunami warning.
