Lombok Barat — Polresta Mataram has upgraded an alleged sexual-abuse case involving a teacher at an Islamic boarding school in Gunungsari, Lombok Barat, West Nusa Tenggara, to the investigation stage on Oct. 9, 2026. The teacher, identified only by the initial F, has not been named a suspect.
AKP I Made Dharma Yulia Putra, head of criminal investigations at Polresta Mataram, said police were continuing to examine witnesses and the alleged perpetrator. F had previously been questioned during the preliminary inquiry, and police said the case was advanced after that process.
The case concerns allegations involving students at two Islamic boarding schools, referred to in reports as Ponpes L and Ponpes AH. Joko Jumadi, chairman of the Mataram Child Protection Agency and an advocate for the alleged victims, said two male students had been included in the police report. One was a person with a disability.
Why the investigation matters for foreign residents
The case illustrates the distinction in Indonesian criminal procedure between an investigation and the formal designation of a suspect. Moving a case to the investigation stage means police are examining evidence and statements; it does not by itself establish the teacher’s guilt or mean that F has been charged.
For foreign residents and visitors, allegations involving Indonesian schools and local institutions remain subject to Indonesian police procedures, even when the facts are reported in international or English-language media. Reports do not identify the teacher by full name and do not say that police have announced a suspect.
Police said witness examinations were still being arranged, including a further examination of F. The investigation remains active, with police continuing to assess witness and victim statements before determining the case’s next legal step.
