Mangupura — All schools in Badung were scheduled to resume in-person classes on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, after temporary online learning linked to Bali’s fuel shortage, according to the Badung Education, Youth and Sports Agency.

The change followed a short-term measure intended to limit travel while fuel supplies were disrupted. The agency said the earlier online-learning arrangement covered students from early-childhood education through junior high school, while schools retained responsibility for practical arrangements such as schedules, assignments and assessment.

For foreign residents with children in Badung, the announcement means classes were set to return to normal in-person instruction rather than continue online. The measure applied to schools under the Badung regency government; the reports do not state that it changed private international-school arrangements.

Why the return matters to Badung families

The temporary switch affected school travel during a period of long queues and limited fuel availability. Returning to classrooms restores ordinary attendance for students and staff, while also ending the short-term disruption to school routines described in the reports.

The earlier policy was introduced after fuel shortages affected mobility across Bali. A report from NusaBali said online learning had been ordered for two days, Oct. 15–16, 2026, with the aim of reducing public and employee mobility and conserving energy. Detik reported a broader three-day arrangement in Badung, from Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, 2026. The differing durations reflect the separate reports’ descriptions of the temporary policy.

As of Oct. 18, the head of the Badung agency, I Gusti Made Dwipayana, said no official instruction had been received extending online classes. Schools were therefore expected to follow the applicable education calendar and resume face-to-face teaching on Oct. 19.
