Bali’s population is projected to reach about 4.75 million at its peak around 2046, after which it is projected to level off and potentially decline as population growth slows. The province’s 2025 population estimate was reported as 4.4333 million people, according to Bali’s provincial government citing BPS data, 2025.

How many people live in Bali?

Bali’s population was estimated at 4,433.3 thousand people in 2025, equivalent to 4.4333 million, according to the Bali provincial government’s 2025 local-government report citing BPS data, 2025.

The figure is an estimate rather than a newly conducted census count. BPS’s publication Bali Province in Figures 2025 provides the province’s statistical reference framework, according to BPS Bali, 2025.

When will Bali’s population stop growing?

The provincial government says BPS projections place Bali’s population peak at about 4.75 million around 2046, according to Bali’s provincial government, 2026.

The same projection says population growth could slow to a negative rate during 2045–2050, with the population potentially declining after 2047, according to Bali’s provincial government, 2026.

Why does the projection matter for Bali?

Population projections help frame planning for public services, infrastructure and the economy because they indicate both the scale of demand and the point at which demographic growth may weaken. Bali’s government says it has instructed agencies to use BPS data as a reference for making programmes more targeted, according to the Bali provincial government, 2026.

How should readers interpret the numbers?

The 2025 figure describes Bali’s estimated population in that year, while 4.75 million is a projected peak around 2046; they are not measurements from the same year. The projection is therefore a planning estimate, not a guarantee that the population will reach exactly that number.
