Denpasar — The Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre detained 177 foreign nationals and deported 143 between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2026, according to figures released in Denpasar on Oct. 1.

The centre, known in Indonesia as Rumah Detensi Imigrasi Denpasar, temporarily houses foreigners subject to administrative immigration measures while deportation arrangements are made. Detention and deportation are separate stages: a person may remain in custody while officials complete travel, identity, nationality and legal-administrative requirements.

DetikBali reported that the centre also transferred seven detainees during the same period. The report attributed the figures to Teguh Mentalyadi, head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre, who said deportation could proceed when costs, nationality status, travel documents and administrative requirements had been settled, the detainee’s health allowed travel and the person was no longer needed for law-enforcement proceedings.

Why the figures matter to foreign residents and visitors

For a foreign resident or visitor in Bali, the figures illustrate the practical consequences of an immigration case beyond the initial investigation. Administrative detention can continue while authorities resolve the conditions needed for departure, so deportation is not necessarily immediate after an alleged violation is identified.

Bali Post reported that the detention centre had capacity for 80 people and was holding 46 detainees, or 58 percent of capacity, at the time of its report. The centre’s role is temporary accommodation for foreigners facing administrative immigration action, including detention for deportation.

The figures cover the first nine months of 2026 and do not describe every immigration enforcement action in Bali. They refer specifically to detentions, deportations and transfers recorded by the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre during that period.
