Denpasar Prosecutors Seek Two-Year Sentence for Australian in Bali Meth Case

Denpasar, Bali — Prosecutors in Denpasar have asked a court to sentence Australian national Sean Duncan Millar to two years in prison over an alleged methamphetamine purchase in Bali, according to Indonesian media reports. The request was made in a hearing on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, and the case is now set for a defense presentation next week.

According to the reports, prosecutor Gusti Ayu Yunita told the court that Millar had been proven to have unlawfully used narcotics for himself. The prosecution cited Article 127(1)(a) of Indonesia’s 2009 Narcotics Law, which covers personal use of narcotics.

Millar appeared in court with his lawyer, Jupiter, and said the defense would deliver an pledoi, or oral rebuttal, at the next hearing. Judge Eni Martiningrum adjourned the trial until Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026.

What prosecutors said in court

Reports said the case stems from a police operation in West Denpasar after Millar allegedly ordered about 0.6 grams of methamphetamine and paid roughly Rp1.7 million. Officers then arrested him at the Trimulia Guest House before he could allegedly use the drug.

Police allegedly found a clear plastic bag containing crystals, along with a bong, a glass pipe and an iPhone that Millar acknowledged as his. The same reports said laboratory testing later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine.

Local reporting also said the prosecution asked the court to keep Millar in detention while the case continues. No final verdict has been issued, and the proceedings are still ongoing.
