Buleleng, Bali — A 68-year-old French national identified by the initials PHT was deported from Indonesia on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, after immigration authorities recorded an overstay of 481 days on his residence permit, according to statements from the Singaraja Immigration Office reported by local media.
Officials said PHT previously held a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) for investment purposes that was valid until 18 April 2025, after which he remained in Indonesia without a valid permit.
Immigration authorities calculated his overstay from 18 April 2025 to 12 August 2026, a period of 481 days.
He was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali at 4:55 p.m. local time under the supervision of officers from the Singaraja Immigration Office, according to the same reports.
Investment permit expired without valid extension
The head of the Singaraja Immigration Office, Anak Agung Gde Kusuma Putra, said PHT claimed he had sought an extension of his investment-related ITAS in March 2025 through a third party.
According to the official, the extension process was not completed, leaving the permit to expire on 18 April 2025 while PHT remained in Indonesia.
Immigration records then showed that PHT continued to stay in Bali without a valid residence permit until 12 August 2026, when the 481-day overstay period ended.
Local reports cited the Singaraja Immigration Office as saying that, regardless of any use of intermediaries, foreign nationals are responsible for ensuring that their permits remain valid and comply with Indonesian immigration rules.
Administrative immigration action and proposed blacklist
Authorities handled the case as an Administrative Immigration Action in the form of deportation.
Officials also proposed that PHT be included in Indonesia’s immigration blacklist, known locally as the Daftar Penangkalan, which can bar a foreign national from re-entering the country for a specified period.
Details on whether the blacklist proposal has been formally approved and the length of any entry ban were not disclosed in the reports.
Legal framework for long overstays
Immigration officials referenced Article 78(3) of Indonesia’s Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, which provides that foreign nationals who overstay for more than 60 days may be subject to deportation and other administrative immigration measures.
Information published by visa advisory services and immigration guidance sites similarly notes that overstays of more than 60 days in Indonesia are generally handled through deportation and a re-entry ban rather than by fines alone.
Key facts in the case:
- Nationality and age: French, 68
- Permit type: Investment-related Limited Stay Permit (ITAS)
- Permit expiry: 18 April 2025
- Recorded overstay: 481 days, from 18 April 2025 to 12 August 2026
