HighScope Indonesia opens 15th school in Denpasar with green concept

Denpasar — — HighScope Indonesia School–Denpasar officially opened on Friday, 18 July 2025, becoming the 15th branch in the HighScope Indonesia network, according to HighScope Indonesia and local media coverage. The campus, located on Jl. Tukad Buaji No. 02 in Sesetan, South Denpasar, offers education from preschool through high school.

The grand opening followed a year of classroom activities, with teaching having begun in July 2024, according to HighScope Indonesia’s official announcement and a subsequent feature by a Bali-based magazine. The school positions itself as part of a national network that now includes 15 campuses across eight cities, serving thousands of students.

The opening ceremony was attended by parents and local officials, including representatives of the Governor of Bali, the Mayor of Denpasar and the South Denpasar subdistrict and village administrations, alongside officials from provincial and city education, public works, investment and research institutions, according to the Bali magazine report.

Environmental measures and "green building" concept

HighScope Indonesia describes the Denpasar campus as adopting a green building concept and a broader commitment to environmental preservation. The school highlights several operational measures as part of this approach.

According to HighScope Indonesia and the Bali magazine article, the Denpasar campus produces and uses eco-enzymes for daily cleaning in order to reduce the use of chemical cleaning products. The school also promotes independent waste management through an initiative referred to as a modern teba, focusing on reducing its environmental impact.

At the opening ceremony, congratulatory flower wreaths from colleagues and partners were replaced with live plants, a gesture the school framed as supporting greening efforts and cutting down on single-use decorative waste.

These steps are presented by the school as concrete environmental initiatives. However, neither HighScope Indonesia’s announcement nor the magazine report specifies the building’s student capacity, total floor area, energy performance, water-saving systems or any national or international green-building certification.

Educational approach and network

HighScope Indonesia states that its educational approach is grounded in brain-based research and longitudinal studies, aiming to support learning from early childhood through high school. The Denpasar campus follows this model, offering programs for children from around 2.5 years of age up to senior high school level, according to HighScope Indonesia and local media reporting.

The organization emphasises character education and the development of creative problem-solving skills from an early age. In a July 2025 news release, HighScope Indonesia said the Denpasar school recorded a 100 percent increase in student numbers during its first year of operation, although it did not disclose the underlying enrollment figures.

Across its wider network, HighScope Indonesia reports serving almost 4,500 students with more than 800 trained teachers in eight cities, and says its alumni have been accepted by hundreds of universities in 21 countries worldwide. These figures were cited in HighScope’s own news release and echoed by the Bali magazine.
