Bali is administered as eight regencies and one city: Jembrana, Tabanan, Badung, Gianyar, Klungkung, Bangli, Karangasem, Buleleng and Denpasar. The province is further divided into 57 districts, 636 villages and 80 urban wards, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026.

What are Bali’s administrative areas?

Bali’s nine regency-level areas consist of eight kabupaten and one kota. The provincial government lists them as Jembrana, Tabanan, Badung, Gianyar, Klungkung, Bangli, Karangasem, Buleleng and Denpasar, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026.

In Indonesia’s administrative system, a kabupaten is a regency and a kota is a city. Denpasar is the province’s city-level area; the other eight are regencies, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026.

How many districts, villages and urban wards does Bali have?

Bali has 57 districts, 636 villages and 80 urban wards, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026. The agency’s administrative-area page gives the total land area as 559,001.27 hectares.

Villages and urban wards are different lower-level administrative units. The provincial government separately counts 636 desa and 80 kelurahan, rather than presenting them as one undifferentiated category, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026.

Which areas are officially part of Bali?

The province’s administrative list includes the eight regencies and Denpasar, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026. A separate Bali provincial population-projection table published by BPS-Statistics Indonesia is organised by regency and municipality, confirming the same level of geographic reporting, according to BPS, 2025.

This administrative framework is used for official statistics and government planning. It is separate from tourism labels such as southern Bali, Ubud or the island’s coastal resort areas.

Why does the administrative map matter?

Knowing the administrative structure helps readers identify which local government is responsible for a place and interpret official data correctly. A figure reported for Badung, for example, is not a province-wide Bali figure, while Denpasar is reported as a municipality in BPS tables, according to BPS, 2025.

The provincial spatial-planning agency also reports Bali’s land area as 559,001.27 hectares, while its administrative breakdown records the 57 districts, 636 villages and 80 urban wards within the nine regency- or city-level areas, according to the Bali provincial spatial-planning agency, 2026.
