Foreign visitors using Indonesia’s electronic Visitor Visa should distinguish the visa’s validity from the permitted stay: the visa is valid for 90 days, while the authorised stay is 30 days from arrival. The official e-Visa portal says the visa is single-entry and covers tourism, government visits, business meetings, goods purchases or transit.
How long is an Indonesian electronic Visitor Visa valid?
The official e-Visa portal states that the electronic Visitor Visa is valid for 90 days. That validity period is the window in which the visa can be used; it is not the length of time a holder may remain in Indonesia.
How long may a visitor stay after entering Bali?
The permitted stay is 30 days from the arrival date, according to Indonesia’s official e-Visa portal. The same portal describes the Visitor Visa as single-entry, so leaving Indonesia ends the stay attached to that visa.
What activities does the Visitor Visa cover?
The official portal lists tourism, government visits, business meetings, goods purchasing and transit as permitted purposes. The listed purposes do not describe permission to work in Indonesia.
Can the stay be extended from inside Indonesia?
The official e-Visa portal says holders should apply at an immigration office for a residence-permit extension when the Visitor Visa expires, rather than applying for a new Visitor Visa while still in Indonesia. The portal also states that the visa’s validity period differs from the duration of stay.
Why does this distinction matter in Bali?
Immigration traffic through Bali is substantial: the Directorate General of Immigration recorded 4,465,685 foreign-national arrivals at I Gusti Ngurah Rai immigration checkpoint from January to August 2024, compared with 3,641,896 in the same period of 2023. Separately, Bali Statistics reported that its 2025 provincial publication was released on February 28, 2025.
