Gianyar — Members of the International Conference of National Trusts released 200 turtle hatchlings at Masceti Beach in Gianyar, Bali, during a conservation event linked to the Tumpek Uye observance, according to RRI and local conservation group Saba Asri.
RRI said the Masceti Beach release was part of a simultaneous series of turtle releases held across Bali on Sept. 7, 2026, while Saba Asri described Masceti as part of Gianyar’s coastline where it conducts turtle conservation patrols and hatchling releases.
The RRI report said the Masceti event involved releasing hundreds of hatchlings back into their habitat and was part of a wider effort to maintain fauna and marine ecosystem balance in Bali. It did not identify the species of turtle, and the conservation group’s public material reviewed for this report does not provide a species breakdown for this specific Masceti release.
As part of the same Balinese observance, turtle releases were also carried out at Oemah Penyu in Buleleng, according to RRI. Saba Asri says its patrol area covers about 15 kilometres of Gianyar coastline, including Masceti Beach, and that it works on protection and release activities there.
The release fits a broader pattern of sea turtle conservation activity in Bali, where community groups and tourism operators regularly stage hatchling releases during the hatching season. Public guidance from Bali-based conservation organisations stresses that such releases are intended to return hatchlings to the sea with minimal handling and under supervised conditions.
In Gianyar, the Masceti release added to the island’s long-running mix of conservation and community events. The available reporting confirms the release took place and that it involved 200 hatchlings, but does not support the draft’s specific claim that the event was held on Sept. 20 or that it was attended by 200 participants from 31 countries.
What was confirmed
- 200 turtle hatchlings were released at Masceti Beach in Gianyar.
- The release was linked to a Bali-wide Tumpek Uye observance.
- RRI identified Masceti Beach as one of the sites where hatchlings were returned to the sea.
- Saba Asri identifies Masceti as part of its Gianyar coastal patrol and conservation area.
What changed from the draft
- The event date was corrected from Sept. 20 to Sept. 7, 2026, based on the sourced reporting.
- The reference to the hatchlings’ species being unidentified was retained in neutral form, because the reviewed sources did not provide a species breakdown for this Masceti release.
