Bali Airport’s 42 and 108 Flight Figures Reflect Different Time Windows

Denpasar — Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded 108 canceled or rescheduled flights between 7 a.m. WITA on Sunday, September 6, and 11 a.m. WITA on Monday, September 7, as volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau disrupted air travel to and from Bali, according to airport officials quoted by local outlets.
The 108-flight total does not add on top of an earlier 42-flight figure. The earlier count was a snapshot taken at 3:30 p.m. WITA on Sunday, September 6, while the later tally covered a longer reporting window through Monday morning.
In the earlier update, airport officials said 42 flights had been affected by 3:30 p.m. WITA on Sunday, including 41 cancellations and one delay. The later tally expanded the window and recorded additional cancellations and schedule changes after that time.
What the two totals include
According to the later airport update, the 108 affected flights broke down into 43 canceled arrivals from Soekarno-Hatta to Bali, five from Halim Perdanakusuma and three from Husein Sastranegara. On the departure side, 51 flights to Soekarno-Hatta were canceled, along with three to Halim Perdanakusuma and three to Husein Sastranegara.
Those figures add up to 108. The airport also said about 13,000 passengers were affected, including roughly 4,400 arriving passengers and 8,700 departing passengers.
The earlier 42-flight snapshot was smaller because it covered a shorter period on Sunday afternoon. It included seven canceled arrivals from Soekarno-Hatta, 30 canceled departures to that airport, two canceled departures to Halim Perdanakusuma, two to Husein Sastranegara and one delayed departure.
Airport management said operations remained generally normal for domestic and international services, even as some flights were canceled or rescheduled. It coordinated with airlines and AirNav Indonesia to monitor conditions and update flight information.
What passengers should do
Passengers with affected flights were advised to confirm their status directly with their airline before traveling to the airport. The airport also prepared drinks and snacks for passengers already in the terminal, according to local reports.
In the airport operator’s guidance, passengers could also use the 172 contact center for information on flights and airport services.
