Bali Immigration Examines 13 Foreign Nationals in Umalas, Seminyak and Canggu

Badung — — Indonesia’s Ngurah Rai Immigration Office examined 13 foreign nationals after a joint operation in Umalas, Seminyak and Canggu on Thursday night, 17 September 2026, immigration officials said.

The Directorate General of Immigration said the operation targeted alleged misuse of residence permits, with officers beginning field checks at 17.00 WITA and using information gathering, undercover work and online monitoring before taking the group to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office for further examination.

The 13 people were not all described as having been formally found to have violated immigration rules. According to the immigration statement, they remained under further questioning over their identities, travel documents and initial statements.

In Umalas, officers examined eight foreign nationals: four women from Nigeria, three from Russia and one from Kazakhstan. The official account said their permits had different validity periods, but it did not spell out the outcome of each case.

In Seminyak, three Nigerian women were identified as holding visit permits that had expired. The immigration account recorded overstay periods of 58 days, 94 days and 134 days.

In Canggu, officers examined a Russian woman and a Ukrainian man. Immigration said the Russian national held a valid remote worker residence permit until 8 November 2026, while the Ukrainian national’s investor residence permit had expired on 14 October 2025.

The authority also said the Canggu cases were suspected of involving prostitution-related activity. It said possible action could fall under Article 75 of Indonesia’s Immigration Law, with sanctions that may include deportation, a five-year entry ban and criminal proceedings.

The operation reflects the powers immigration authorities have to examine foreigners’ documents and status during enforcement actions. The statement said officers were acting on public information and checks of online channels, including WhatsApp and Telegram.

For visitors, the practical lesson is straightforward: keep a passport and valid immigration documents available, and check visa or permit expiry dates carefully. If a stay may have lapsed, the safest course is to seek official guidance promptly rather than assume the issue will be resolved automatically at departure.

Officials said monitoring of foreign nationals would continue, with cooperation from Bali immigration authorities, the Bali police and members of the public.
