Danau Batur — Bali Governor Wayan Koster and the commander of the Udayana Regional Military Command, Maj. Gen. Made Putra Widiastawa, launched a Danau Batur restoration operation in Buahan Village, Kintamani, Bangli, on Friday, 30 October 2026.

Why it matters: The programme brings daily military personnel and local communities into a one-month effort to clean Danau Batur, remove weeds, manage organic waste and mark its buffer zone.

The opening-day action involved about 500 participants from the military, police, regional government, traditional community leaders and local residents, according to Bali Post and Tribun Bali.

The operation is intended to address waste and pollution around the lake. Activities include cleaning the lake and its buffer zone, removing aquatic weeds, installing markers for the lake-buffer boundary and processing organic waste, Bali Post reported.

One-month operation

The restoration and organic-waste management programme will run for one month, Bali Post said. Fifty-five military personnel will take part in daily cleanups alongside local communities.

The launch began with a joint assembly in Buahan Village, followed by an inspection of the lake area and shoreline cleanup. Tribun Bali reported that the lake’s condition was being addressed through cooperation between the military, local government and communities.

Widiastawa said the military’s involvement supported environmental conservation and the interests of communities around the lake, according to Tribun Bali. The event also promoted household-level separation and management of organic waste.

The programme was attended by Bangli Regent Sang Nyoman Sedana Arta, representatives of the Bali police, regional officials and traditional village leaders from Kintamani, the reports said.

Danau Batur is a major natural and cultural area in Bali, and the operation links immediate shoreline cleaning with longer-term waste management and boundary marking around the lake.
