Denpasar — Bali’s accommodation and food-service sector grew 6.23% in the third quarter of 2026, while foreign-tourist visits rose 0.94% year on year, according to reports citing the Bali office of Statistics Indonesia.

The sector accounted for 22.87% of Bali’s economic structure, but its growth was slower than in the same quarter a year earlier. The figures came as Bali’s economy expanded 5.85% year on year in the third quarter, amid continued dependence on tourism and signs of moderation after the peak travel period.

Why Bali’s tourism slowdown matters to visitors and foreign residents

For visitors, the figures point to a tourism economy that is still expanding but no longer accelerating at its earlier pace. Foreign arrivals increased only 0.94% year on year, while the accommodation and food-service sector grew 6.23%. That combination suggests that tourism businesses remained a major source of economic activity even as international demand became less dynamic.

The sector’s 22.87% share makes its performance especially significant for Bali. Reports said the slowdown was linked to normalization after the peak season and broader global uncertainty. One report also said foreign-tourist visits increased 0.94% during the quarter, while another described the sector’s growth as lower than the 10.94% recorded in the same period of the previous year.

In practical terms, the data describe conditions for the island’s tourism businesses rather than a new entry or residence rule. Foreign visitors remain part of the market measured by the statistics, while foreign residents may see the effects indirectly through the performance of accommodation, restaurants and related services.

Bali’s third-quarter economic growth of 5.85% remained above the national rate cited in one report. Analysts and officials warned that post-peak-season normalization and global uncertainty could continue to weigh on tourism-related activity.
