Denpasar — Bali recorded 650.169 direct foreign-tourist visits in September 2026, a 5,22 percent decline from August, while domestic travel to the island reached about 2,21 million trips, down 6,41 percent month on month. Hotel occupancy stood at 66,42 percent for star-rated properties and 41,19 percent for non-star accommodation.
The figures, reported from data by Statistics Indonesia’s Bali office, show a September slowdown across both international and domestic tourism. The decline in visitor movement was reflected in accommodation demand, with non-star properties recording substantially lower occupancy than star-rated hotels.
Why Bali’s September slowdown matters to visitors
For foreign visitors, the figures indicate that Bali’s accommodation market remained active but uneven in September. The data describe overall provincial conditions, not the availability or pricing of any individual hotel, villa or guesthouse.
The domestic market also weakened during the month. Travel by Indonesian visitors to Bali was reported at about 2,21 million trips, following a month-on-month decrease of 6,41 percent. Travel by residents from outside Bali fell more sharply, to about 412 thousand trips, a decline of 12,5 percent from August.
International arrivals also eased. Bali received 650.169 direct foreign-tourist visits in September, down 5,22 percent from the previous month, although a separate report citing Statistics Indonesia’s Bali data said the figure was 2,36 percent higher than in September of the previous year.
The occupancy data place Bali among Indonesia’s strongest provincial hotel markets in September. Star-rated hotels recorded 66,42 percent occupancy, while the rate for non-star accommodation was 41,19 percent. The figures point to softer demand without indicating that tourism activity stopped or that all accommodation businesses experienced the same conditions.
