Mangupura — Bali used the Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) 2026 to showcase environmental and social innovation as part of its wider sustainability agenda, with Governor Wayan Koster urging business, government and communities to work together on waste, emissions, energy, water, biodiversity and circular-economy solutions.
The event was held in Bali on 10 September 2026 and was reported by both Tribun Bali and the Bali provincial government. According to those reports, it carried the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Business and Resilient Community” and was attended by officials including Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Rachmat Pambudy, and Koster.
Koster linked the awards to Bali’s Ekonomi Kerthi Bali framework, which he said aims to balance nature, people and Balinese culture. He said development should advance alongside environmental protection and deliver benefits to communities.
Sucofindo President Director Sandry Pasambuna described ENSIA as an awards platform for companies and community figures presenting practical environmental and social innovation. The company said the programme is meant to encourage more sustainable business practices and stronger community resilience.
Awards and wider claims
Tribun Bali and other local reports said ENSIA 2026 also highlighted the role of innovation in business continuity and green transition. The published accounts identified the overall theme and the senior officials present, but did not provide project-by-project results in the material reviewed for this article.
The reports also said the award is associated with Indonesia’s PROPER environmental performance programme, a national benchmark for corporate environmental compliance and performance. Sucofindo framed ENSIA as a way to add recognition for companies and local innovators working on environmental and social solutions.
Koster said innovation should be treated as a long-term investment rather than a simple cost, according to the provincial government’s account. He also called for cooperation among government, business, academia and communities so that sustainability projects can move beyond recognition and into implementation.
ENSIA 2026 was presented in Bali as part of the province’s broader effort to align economic growth with environmental protection under the Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali vision. The event placed waste management, emissions reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, biodiversity protection and circular production at the centre of that agenda.
In the reports reviewed, Sucofindo did not publish a project catalogue with baseline data, funding details or replication timelines for individual award recipients. The event was nevertheless positioned as a platform for turning environmental innovation into a wider development tool for Bali and beyond.
