Bali Warns of Strong Winds and 2-Metre Seas Across Several Waters

Denpasar — — Bali’s meteorology agency warned on 31 August that strong winds could affect Bangli, Karangasem and Buleleng, while sea conditions in several waters around the island could reach two metres or more, according to RRI and BMKG information cited on the same day.

RRI Singaraja reported that the Bali regional meteorology office had flagged the three inland regencies for potential strong winds during August 2026, and that the warning also covered the southern part of the Bali Strait, the Badung Strait, the Lombok Strait and waters south of Bali, where waves could reach two metres or higher.

BMKG’s Bali climatology station page also listed August 2026 climate information for the province, supporting the existence of an official BMKG bulletin for the period. Separately, BMKG’s maritime bulletin for 31 August showed southern Bali waters in the forecast area for moderate seas.

For travellers, the immediate concern is not only on land but also on sea crossings and coastal activities. Strong winds can make driving more difficult, and rougher seas can affect small vessels and passengers on inter-island routes.

What travellers should do

Passengers travelling by ferry or fast boat were advised to check conditions with operators before departure and to follow crew instructions if seas become rough. Coastal visitors should also secure loose items and avoid standing under trees, poles, billboards or other structures that could be affected by wind.

The warning is relevant to people moving through Bali Strait routes, including the Gilimanuk–Ketapang crossing, because the marine forecast covers the waters connected to that passage. The RRI report said the island’s winds and waves remained a concern for late-August travel.

RRI also said winds could bring down branches, trees and unsecured objects, increasing the risk around roads and outdoor areas. That makes short journeys, beach visits and other open-air activities more vulnerable when the forecast turns unsettled.
