Buleleng — — Police in northern Bali say they seized a homemade firearm, eight rounds of ammunition and nine small packets of crystal methamphetamine from a 50-year-old farmer during a narcotics raid in Munduk village, Buleleng Regency. The case was presented at a Buleleng Police press briefing on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, according to local media reports.
Satresnarkoba (the Buleleng Police Narcotics Unit) searched the suspect, identified as MN, at a house in Banjar Dinas Tamblingan, Munduk, Banjar District. According to statements by Narcotics Unit chief AKP Putu Edy Sukaryawan quoted by several outlets, officers confiscated nine packets of suspected methamphetamine with a gross weight of 0.66 grams and a net weight of 0.33 grams.
Police describe MN as a male farmer and resident of Banjar Dinas Tamblingan. He is alleged to have kept the methamphetamine at his home, though investigators have not publicly detailed whether they suspect street-level dealing or personal use.
Homemade gun found in same raid
The narcotics search also uncovered a homemade firearm and ammunition. According to coverage of the Buleleng Police press release, officers found one improvised gun measuring around 10 centimetres together with eight rounds, reportedly stored in a waist bag along with drug evidence.
Kasat Reskrim (head of the Criminal Investigation Unit) AKP Alberto Diovant told reporters the firearm and ammunition have been sent to a forensic laboratory for ballistic testing. The examination is intended to determine whether the weapon can discharge rounds, establish its calibre and help trace its origin.
Buleleng Police say the firearms file has been separated from the narcotics case and handed from the Narcotics Unit to the Criminal Investigation Unit on the orders of Buleleng Police Chief AKBP Ruzi Gusman. Investigators are working to clarify how the weapon entered MN’s possession and whether it is linked to any wider network.
Several reports quoting police statements say MN initially told investigators he had held the firearm for around 15 years after receiving it from a neighbour who has since died. Officers have not publicly identified the neighbour, and the account remains the subject of further checks, including ballistic analysis and tracing of the weapon’s provenance.
Police figures reported in the case include:
- Suspect: MN, 50, male farmer from Banjar Dinas Tamblingan, Munduk village, Banjar district
- Suspected methamphetamine: nine packets; 0.66 grams gross, 0.33 grams net
- Firearm evidence: one homemade gun, approximately 10 centimetres long, plus eight rounds of ammunition
Legal provisions cited
Media citing police and prosecutorial information report that MN has been booked under Article 306 of Law No. 1 of 2023, Indonesia’s revised Criminal Code, covering the possession, carrying, control, storage or concealment of firearms and ammunition without authorisation. Police say the article carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison for illegal firearms offences.
For the narcotics allegation, MN is reported to face legal action under Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. Local coverage notes that investigators initially applied provisions governing narcotics distribution, which can carry sentences of up to 20 years in prison, though final charges will depend on the prosecutorial review and any subsequent court proceedings.
Next steps in the investigation
According to the Buleleng Police briefing reported by multiple outlets, the ballistic examination of the homemade gun and ammunition is the next key evidentiary step. Results are expected to clarify the weapon’s calibre, mechanical condition and whether it is functional.
Police have not yet publicly disclosed the outcome of the ballistic tests, any broader links to firearms trafficking or the final legal classification of the methamphetamine and weapons cases. Further announcements are likely to come as the investigation progresses and prosecutors decide on the full indictment.
