Bali — Desa Potato Head in Bali has been ranked 21st in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026, one of two Indonesian properties on the latest global list released by the 50 Best organisation in mid-September 2026. Nihi Sumba, on Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara, is placed 35th.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 ranking was revealed at an awards ceremony in Paris on 15 September 2026 and published by 50 Best as its official list. A release distributed via PR Newswire notes that Rosewood Hong Kong took the top spot for the second year running and confirms that two Indonesian hotels feature: Desa Potato Head at No. 21 and Nihi Sumba at No. 35.
Indonesian hotels on the 2026 list
The official list published by 50 Best identifies Desa Potato Head simply as “Desa Potato Head, Bali” at position 21, between Cheval Blanc Paris at No. 20 and San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara at No. 22. Nihi Sumba appears as “Nihi Sumba, Sumba Island” at No. 35, following Mount Nelson in Cape Town at No. 34.
Coverage of the ranking by international outlets including Wallpaper, The National and Forbes reproduces the 2026 list and also place Desa Potato Head in 21st position. The Yahoo Finance republication of the PR Newswire announcement provides the most detailed tabular breakdown of positions 18–35, including Nihi Sumba’s ranking.
Key ranking data:
- Desa Potato Head, Bali — ranked 21st in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026.
- Nihi Sumba, Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara — ranked 35th in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026.
- Ranking edition: The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026, announced in Paris on 15 September 2026.
How the ranking is decided
According to explanatory material from 50 Best and coverage by Euronews, the World’s 50 Best Hotels list is compiled from the votes of an international academy of travel and hospitality experts. The academy includes hotel industry professionals, travel journalists and seasoned travellers selected by the organisation, and members are asked to vote for hotels where they have stayed during a specified period.
Euronews notes that the ranking is now in its fourth edition and explains that the list is based on the aggregated votes of this panel rather than on commercial partnerships or advertising. The 50 Best organisation describes the extended 51–100 list as part of its effort to recognise a broader range of high-quality hospitality experiences worldwide.
Positioning for Bali and eastern Indonesia
The inclusion of Desa Potato Head and Nihi Sumba means Indonesia has two properties in the 2026 top 50, both located in popular leisure destinations rather than major cities. Desa Potato Head represents Bali’s established position as a global beach resort hub, while Nihi Sumba highlights a more remote luxury offering on Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara.
International coverage of the list frequently highlights Asian and European cities such as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Paris and Dubai, but the presence of Indonesian resorts among the top-ranked hotels places Bali and Sumba alongside these destinations in the current conversation about high-end accommodation.
Neither 50 Best nor the outlets reporting on the ranking provide data on how inclusion in the list translates into bookings, investment or hotel revenue, but the placements confirm that these two Indonesian properties meet the organisation’s criteria for world-class hospitality in 2026.
