Diamond Beach Stays Open as Swing and Flying Fox Are Suspended

Labuan Bajo — Diamond Beach on Nusa Penida remained open while two attractions at the site, a swing and a flying-fox ride, were ordered suspended after inspectors found missing permits and safety documents, according to Bali Live and local reporting in early September.

Authorities inspected the site on Aug. 22 and found the flying fox lacked the required building approval and occupational safety paperwork, while the swing operator was also unable to show the basic documentation needed for the structure, according to Bali Live. Local reports later said the beach itself was not the target of the action, and that only the unlicensed business units were ordered closed.

The enforcement action was part of routine checks on tourism businesses in Nusa Penida, rather than a response to a single complaint, according to Bali Live. Separate local reports said officials also reviewed other facilities in the area, including a coffee shop and accommodation units.

In a report published Sept. 1, local media said the district’s enforcement team had ordered some businesses at Diamond Beach to stop operating temporarily after the permits were found incomplete. On Sept. 7, another local report said the closure did not target Diamond Beach as a destination, but eight business units in the area that still lacked permits.

What visitors should know

The beach and access stairway remain open, but the swing and flying fox should not be treated as operating attractions. Authorities have not announced a reopening date for the suspended rides, according to the reports.

Local reporting also said the management was given time to process the paperwork and explain the situation to officials. The broader area may still contain other business operations, but the enforcement action focused on the unlicensed units rather than the beach itself.

For travelers, the practical takeaway is simple: a visit to Diamond Beach is still possible, but package tours advertising the swing or flying fox may not reflect the current status. Visitors should confirm what is actually operating before booking.
