Badung — Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a 28-year-old Australian man identified as BA and barred him from re-entering the country for 10 years after an alleged indecent act in North Kuta, Bali, according to local media and immigration officials. The man was deported to Brisbane after being held at Ngurah Rai Airport, authorities said.
Ngurah Rai Immigration Office chief Novyandri said the 10-year entry ban was imposed to maintain public order and security in relation to foreign nationals in Bali, according to Tempo and other local reports. The case centered on footage that allegedly showed BA involved in sexual activity at a resident's property in the Tibubeneng area of North Kuta.
Authorities stopped BA at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Aug. 25 as he was preparing to board a flight to Brisbane, according to the reports. Police then investigated the complaint after the incident was circulated on social media and later recommended deportation, the reports said.
What authorities said
Novyandri said the deportation followed coordination between immigration officials and police. He said the immigration office would continue to take firm action against immigration violations involving foreign nationals in Bali, according to the reports.
The reports identified the man only by his initials and did not report a criminal conviction. They described the case as an alleged obscene or indecent act, not a court finding.
The deportation was carried out on Sept. 8 and the 10-year ban was announced on Sept. 9, according to the sources. The man was returned to Brisbane on a Batik Air flight, the reports said.
