Nusa Dua — Indonesian musician Indra Lesmana and The Apurva Kempinski Bali have launched Swara Apurva, a nine-composition musical project inspired by the Balinese philosophy of Dewata Nawa Sanga and integrated into the resort’s 2025 “Powerful Indonesia to the World” campaign in Nusa Dua.

According to a press release issued by The Apurva Kempinski Bali, Swara Apurva premiered in Bali on 25 April 2025 and is positioned as the resort’s new musical anthem, following its sixth-anniversary celebrations. The project is presented as part of the property’s broader effort to weave Indonesian cultural narratives into its guest experience.

Inspired by Dewata Nawa Sanga’s nine cardinal directions, each of the nine compositions is designed to represent a distinct spiritual energy and cultural character. The music is curated to be played throughout key resort spaces, including the lobby, corridors and guest rooms, with personalised playlists based on the nine directions offered to guests as part of an immersive stay.

The collaboration places Indonesian musical heritage inside a luxury-hospitality setting. Instead of being presented solely as a concert or one-off cultural event, Swara Apurva is intended to form part of the resort’s daily sound environment and experiential branding for international visitors.

Traditional instruments meet contemporary production

The Apurva Kempinski Bali describes Swara Apurva as a fusion of traditional Indonesian instruments and global musical influences. Instruments highlighted in the project include gamelan, rindik and suling, alongside modern elements such as piano and string quartet, creating layered soundscapes that reference Indonesian flora, fauna and spirituality.

The compositions are framed as multisensory works that seek to connect Indonesia’s musical heritage and natural environment with contemporary production techniques aimed at reaching a global audience. The resort links the project to its ongoing focus on sustainability, wellness, culinary excellence and cultural encounters within the 2025 campaign.

According to Indonesian business outlet Marketeers, Swara Apurva is identified by Lesmana as the 103rd project in his career, extending his long-running engagement with jazz, pop and other genres while centring Indonesian themes for international listeners.

Project details

  • Format: Nine original compositions integrated into resort spaces, ambient soundscapes and guest playlists.
  • Concept: The nine cardinal directions of Dewata Nawa Sanga, each associated with distinct spiritual energies and characteristics.
  • Sound palette: Traditional Indonesian instruments such as gamelan, rindik and suling, combined with piano, string quartet and nature-inspired sound textures.
  • Streaming: Two themes, “Prana” and “Shakti”, are available on major digital platforms including Spotify and Apple Music, while the full collection is presented exclusively at the resort.

A cultural product built into the guest journey

The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s management presents Swara Apurva as part of its strategy to bring Indonesian culture and heritage to global audiences through experiential marketing. In company communications, the resort emphasises that guests can encounter the compositions throughout the property, with the music functioning as an audible expression of its identity in 2025.

This positioning makes Swara Apurva both a cultural project and a destination-branding tool. Its distribution across lobbies, hallways and rooms gives the work a continuous role in how the resort presents itself, while personalised playlists offer guests a direct way to engage with the Dewata Nawa Sanga concept during their stay.

The full suite of compositions is described as part of an exclusive on-site experience, with only selected themes released to streaming platforms. Guests and listeners are invited to explore the broader musical journey as part of the resort’s curated programme under the “Powerful Indonesia to the World” campaign.

Context

Swara Apurva follows The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s sixth anniversary and is one of the flagship initiatives in its 2025 campaign to showcase Indonesian culture, music, art and culinary traditions to international travellers. The project aligns with the resort’s stated focus on partnerships with artists and communities, cultural-diversity guest experiences and sustainable activations across the year.

By embedding Lesmana’s compositions into the everyday rhythm of the property, the collaboration reflects a wider trend in Bali’s high-end hospitality sector: using original cultural programming not only as entertainment, but as a defining element of the guest journey and of the destination’s international profile.
