Pelindo Marine Relocates Floating Gas Units at Benoa Tourism Hub

Benoa — — Pelindo Marine Service has relocated a floating regasification unit and a floating storage regasification unit from the Bali Cruise Ship Terminal area in Benoa to the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub’s second development area, in a move positioned as both an energy-security measure and a step in transforming the port into a maritime tourism gateway.

The company announced that the relocation of the two floating energy facilities — described as the port’s “energy barn” — was completed on Monday, 10 August 2026. According to Pelindo Marine, the units were moved from the Bali Cruise Ship Terminal (BCST) zone to Development Area 2 (AP2), which has been designated for energy, cargo, logistics and related facilities within the broader hub plan.

Pelindo Marine is a subsidiary of Pelindo’s maritime services subholding and handles pilotage, towage and marine services at Benoa. In its statement, the company said the relocation was carried out to support the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub while maintaining reliable energy supplies for Bali, noting that the floating units continue to feed gas to power plants serving the island.

Energy facilities and new location

Pelindo and its subsidiaries have been progressively reorganising energy infrastructure at Benoa as part of a national strategic project to develop the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub. Official releases describe a plan to shift the LNG terminal and related facilities from the south side of the port to the north side, freeing the former energy area to be redeveloped as cruise and passenger terminals.

The latest relocation by Pelindo Marine moves floating regasification assets away from the Bali Cruise Ship Terminal area into AP2, which Pelindo and local authorities have identified as an energy and logistics zone. Development Area 2, covering about 45 hectares, is earmarked for energy, cargo, logistics and the Taman Segara Kerthi waterfront park within the hub.

Earlier planning documents and statements from Pelindo indicate that the LNG terminal reconfiguration and associated infrastructure upgrades are intended to support clean energy distribution while increasing berthing capacity for cruise vessels at Benoa. The company has projected that, once completed, the hub could host up to five cruise terminals, with deeper berths and expanded passenger facilities.

Tourism hub development

The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is listed as a National Strategic Project under Indonesian government regulations, with Pelindo leading the redevelopment of Benoa port into an integrated marina, cruise, logistics and energy complex. Authorities have linked the project to broader efforts to enhance Bali’s appeal as a world-class maritime tourism destination while reorganising port activities, including fisheries and fuel handling, to designated zones.

Pelindo and Pertamina subsidiaries are also working on relocating liquid bulk fuel facilities from South Benoa to the north and building new reception infrastructure for fuel and aviation fuel, in coordination with the hub’s development. Separately, plans are underway to move many fishing vessels from Benoa to Pengambengan port in Jembrana, clearing space for an international marina and tourism facilities.

Pelindo has reported ongoing land-legalisation and tax regularisation for the hub area in cooperation with Denpasar city authorities, indicating that the regulatory groundwork for development Area 2 and other zones is largely in place. The ultimate phase of hub construction, including the LNG terminal arrangements, has previously been targeted for completion around the mid-2020s, though recent reports also point to marina operations ramping up towards the end of the decade.

While detailed operational impacts of the August 2026 relocation on day-to-day port users have not been publicly elaborated, Pelindo Marine and Pelindo have consistently framed the energy-facility moves as designed to support tourism infrastructure expansion without compromising the stability of Bali’s power supply.
