Pelindo Registers 73 Luxury Cruise Calls to Benoa Port for 2026

Denpasar — State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) says 73 luxury cruise ships have registered to call at Benoa Port in Bali in 2026, supported by expanded facilities at the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) and rising global interest in cruise itineraries to the island, according to recent local media reports.

The registration figure was disclosed by Benoa Port General Manager Anak Agung Gede Agung Mataram in November 2025, when he said Pelindo was preparing Benoa to serve growing cruise tourism demand and to host more turnaround operations for international vessels.

According to Indonesian business news outlet Bisnis and other local media, Pelindo data show that from January to early November 2025, 49 cruise ships called at Benoa, carrying 96,013 passengers, with the full-year total projected at 66 calls.

Pelindo figures cited in Bisnis indicate cruise traffic has risen steadily over the past three years, with Benoa handling 48 cruise calls and 78,241 passengers in 2023, and 56 calls and 107,717 passengers in 2024.

Berth expansion and operational capacity

Local coverage of the BMTH development notes that Benoa’s main cruise berth has been extended to around 500 metres, significantly increasing berthing capacity at the port.

Pelindo and port-focused publications report that Benoa’s international cruise terminal is configured to handle embarkation and disembarkation for approximately 3,000 people on a single large vessel call, reflecting its role as a hub for regional cruise routes.

Pelindo has highlighted recent operations involving large ships, including the handling of jumbo cruise vessels such as MSC Magnifica and others carrying around 3,000 passengers and crew, as examples of Benoa’s upgraded capacity.

Growth in cruise tourism

Pelindo representatives quoted by Bisnis describe a consistent upward trend in cruise visits, driven by improved infrastructure and marketing of Bali as a high-end cruise destination.

Other tourism-focused outlets report that Benoa’s cruise calls in 2024 were part of a wider national increase in cruise traffic, with Pelindo terminals across Indonesia serving more than 200 cruise calls and over 400,000 passengers that year.

For 2025, Pelindo projections at the national level indicate Benoa as one of the main contributors to Indonesia’s cruise traffic, with around 65 cruise calls and 146,105 passengers at the port over the year, according to a March 2026 report on Pelindo’s cruise operations.

Plans for BMTH and marina facilities

Reports on the BMTH project state that Pelindo is pursuing further expansion of cruise berthing capacity and marina facilities at Benoa, including plans to lengthen the cruise berth beyond current dimensions and develop yacht infrastructure in partnership with private investors.

Local media say Pelindo is also working with tourism stakeholders in Bali to integrate cruise arrivals with shore excursions to destinations such as villages in Bangli Regency, as part of efforts to spread economic benefits from cruise tourism beyond the port area.

Tourism outlets covering the 2026 outlook note that while 73 luxury cruise ships have registered to call at Benoa, detailed schedules and passenger volume forecasts for each visit are not yet publicly available, and bookings may be subject to change as cruise operators finalise their deployment plans.
