Bali dog rabies vaccination reaches 57.40%, officials say

Denpasar — Bali said it had vaccinated 327,757 dogs by Sept. 2, 2026, equal to 57.40% of an estimated 570,976 dogs in the province, according to a Sept. 4 report by Tribun Bali and a separate Media Indonesia gallery citing provincial data. The figures show the campaign is progressing, but coverage remains uneven across districts.

The Bali Agriculture and Food Security Agency said vaccine supplies were sufficient through the end of 2026. Agency chief I Wayan Sunada said provincial stocks stood at 250,000 doses, with additional supplies held by district governments, according to Tribun Bali.

Tribun Bali reported that total vaccinations for animals at risk of rabies reached 336,779, including 327,757 dogs, 8,984 cats and 38 monkeys. Media Indonesia separately reported that by July 2026, 282,683 dogs had been vaccinated, or 49.51% of the same estimated dog population.

Coverage varies widely across districts

Gianyar recorded the highest dog-vaccination coverage at 93.51%, or 74,726 dogs. Klungkung followed at 78.87%, while Badung reached 78.49%, according to Tribun Bali.

At the other end of the scale, Karangasem had vaccinated 19,558 dogs, equal to 22.93% of its estimated population of 85,302. Buleleng stood at 27.22% and Bangli at 28.71%, leaving both below 30% coverage, Tribun Bali reported.

The daily figures published for Sept. 2 showed 403 additional dogs vaccinated that day, along with 32 cats. Tabanan recorded the highest daily dog total at 211, according to Tribun Bali.

The reports indicate Bali’s rabies vaccination drive is being carried out through the provincial agriculture agency and district governments, with the province saying vaccine supply is secured through December. They do not provide a full district-by-district stock breakdown or a timetable for reaching the lowest-coverage areas.
