Denpasar — The Bali and Nusa Tenggara region recorded 6.10% year-on-year economic growth in the second quarter of 2026, the highest regional growth rate in Indonesia according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

The figure refers to the combined performance of the provinces of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and does not represent Bali Province alone.

Separate data from BPS Bali show that Bali’s provincial economy grew 5.78% year-on-year in Q2 2026, with its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) at current prices reaching about IDR 89.27 trillion.

Regional growth outpaces the national rate

In its national release for the second quarter, BPS reported that Indonesia’s economy grew 5.29% year-on-year.

By island group, BPS highlighted that Bali and Nusa Tenggara posted the strongest growth at 6.10%, followed by Java at 5.65% and Sulawesi at 5.53%.

Several outlets reporting on the BPS presentation noted that, despite its high growth rate, the Bali–Nusa Tenggara grouping contributed around 2.84% to Indonesia’s total gross domestic product, while Java accounted for roughly 56.47% and Sumatra about 22.50%.

How Bali contributes within the grouping

Coverage of the BPS data indicates that the 6.10% regional growth in Bali–Nusa Tenggara was driven primarily by Bali, which contributed 2.77 percentage points to the grouping’s growth.

West Nusa Tenggara contributed about 2.21 percentage points and East Nusa Tenggara about 1.12 percentage points to the regional figure, according to reports citing BPS Deputy for Balance and Statistical Analysis M. Edy Mahmud.

BPS also identified three key sectors underpinning growth in the Bali–Nusa Tenggara region: mining, trade and government administration.

Bali’s separate growth profile

Provincial data released and summarised by Goodstats and other outlets show that Bali’s economy in Q2 2026 was measured at IDR 89.27 trillion on a current-price basis, with constant-price GRDP of IDR 47.34 trillion.

Bali’s 5.78% year-on-year growth outpaced the national rate and was higher than its 5.58% growth in the first quarter, indicating a strengthening local economy.

From the production side, the provision of accommodation and food services remained Bali’s largest sector, contributing about 21.91% of GRDP, underscoring the continued dominance of tourism-related activities.

What this means for households

The 6.10% regional growth figure for Bali–Nusa Tenggara and the 5.78% provincial growth figure for Bali describe changes in total economic output compared with the same quarter a year earlier.

These growth rates do not directly measure household income, purchasing power, employment quality, poverty levels, inequality or the cost of living.

Reports summarising BPS data for Q2 2026 focus on aggregate output, sectoral contributions and regional shares of GDP, rather than detailed household indicators.

While the expansion in tourism-related sectors suggests robust activity and potential spillovers to local businesses, the available figures do not show how income gains are distributed among workers, small enterprises and households, nor whether living standards improved evenly across Bali.
