International visitors to Bali should treat the tourist levy and immigration charge as separate obligations: the Bali foreign-tourist levy is IDR 150,000 per person, paid once during travel in Bali, while the official 30-day Visitor Visa costs IDR 500,000 and permits a 30-day stay. The levy is provincial; the visa is national.
What is the Bali tourist levy?
The Foreign Tourist Levy applies to every international tourist travelling in Bali for tourism activities, according to the Bali Provincial Government’s Love Bali FAQ, updated in 2026. The charge is IDR 150,000 per person and is paid only one time while travelling in Bali, rather than once per attraction or once per day.
Love Bali says the policy took effect on 2024-02-14. The provincial government describes the levy as supporting the protection of Balinese culture and the natural environment, under Bali Province Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2025, according to the official Love Bali release published in 2025.
How and when is the levy paid?
Payment is cashless through the official Love Bali system, according to the Bali Provincial Government. Visitors can pay before entering Bali, at payment counters at Bali’s airport and ports, or during their trip through registered Love Bali endpoints.
After payment, the system sends a levy voucher with a QR code to the email address entered by the traveller. Love Bali lists cards, bank transfer, virtual account, UnionPay and QRIS among accepted payment methods.
Who is exempt from the levy?
Love Bali lists exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official visas, transport crew, KITAS or KITAP holders, family-unification visa holders, student-visa holders and Golden Visa holders. Holders of other visas must apply through the Love Bali system for the relevant exemption, while several other exempt categories can show their permit or card to an officer.
The official FAQ also states that cruise passengers are covered by the levy. They may pay individually or through registered cruise agents using the Love Bali endpoint service.
What does the official 30-day Visitor Visa cost?
Indonesia’s official e-Visa website says its Visitor Visa is a single-entry visa for a 30-day stay. The fee is IDR 500,000, and the visa itself has a 90-day validity period; that validity period is different from the permitted stay, according to the Directorate General of Immigration’s e-Visa information.
The same immigration page says each traveller, including infants and children, needs a separate Visitor Visa, and a passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date. The visa charge and the Bali levy therefore address different requirements and should not be treated as one combined fee.
What should travellers check before departure?
- Whether the intended immigration status matches the trip and planned length of stay.
- Whether the passport has at least 6 months of validity from arrival.
- Whether the IDR 150,000 levy applies or an exemption is available.
- Whether the levy voucher has arrived by email after payment.
