Labuan Bajo — Basarnas said Friday that the search for Veronica Beatrix Jessica, the remaining missing victim from the sinking of KM Feronia in Komodo National Park waters, had entered its 10th day.
The statement came as the National Search and Rescue Agency, known as Basarnas, prepared to evaluate the operation in three days. Officials said the search would continue if the review found that there was still a possibility of locating the victim, but could end if conditions indicated that further efforts were no longer effective.
The search affects safety concerns around Komodo National Park
For visitors and foreign residents in Labuan Bajo, the case underscores the operational risks surrounding marine travel in the waters off Manggarai Barat, where tourist vessels operate near the park’s islands and dive sites. The report identifies Jessica as the sole remaining missing victim in the Feronia incident; it does not state that the park itself has closed.
Basarnas chief Marshal of the Indonesian Air Force Mohammad Syafii said the operation remained underway and had reached its 10th day. He said an evaluation would take place three days later. The decision would depend on whether the search still had a viable prospect of finding Jessica.
The search was being conducted in the waters of Komodo National Park near Labuan Bajo, Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara. The report does not provide a final outcome for the operation on Oct. 23, 2026, and says only that continuation remained possible after the planned review.
