Denpasar — The Indonesian Association for AI Industry Research and Innovation (KORIKA) and AI Singapore launched Project NUSA on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Denpasar, Bali.

Why it matters: Businesses, universities and technology organisations in Indonesia and Singapore are included in a 20-institution ecosystem developing shared AI governance, data and practical applications.

The initiative is intended to support safer, more trusted and locally relevant artificial-intelligence development in Indonesia and Singapore, according to Bali Post and RRI. It focuses on open-source AI governance and open data and knowledge.

Project NUSA brings together 20 institutions from industry, technology, AI safety, finance and education, Bali Post reported. The initial ecosystem includes universities, technology companies, financial institutions and other organisations.

KORIKA chairman Hammam Riza said the project would provide a shared framework for AI governance, development and deployment in both countries, according to Kumparan. The framework is intended to incorporate ethical safeguards and human oversight.

AI Singapore deputy director of AI products William Tjhi said Indonesia and Singapore bring complementary strengths to the partnership, with Singapore contributing advanced technology and Indonesia providing a large market for testing practical applications, Kumparan reported.

The project’s first phase will develop practical solutions in Indonesia and Singapore and assess the economic benefits of their use, Bali Post reported. Solutions showing positive results could later be expanded across Southeast Asia and to global markets.
