Denpasar — Bali’s retail sales fell by 10 percent on Oct. 19 as a weeklong fuel shortage disrupted deliveries and reduced visits to stores, according to monitoring and reports from retail businesses.

The reported decline came as fuel-supply problems affected the movement of goods to retail outlets across Bali. Customer traffic fell by 9–10 percent, while distribution delays made it harder for businesses to maintain normal operations.

Bali retailers reported a 10 percent sales decline

The Association of Indonesian Retailers (Aprindo) Bali recorded sales declines of up to 10 percent and a customer-traffic decline of about 9–10 percent. The figures were presented by Asinaga Budiman, chairman of Aprindo Bali’s regional board, on Monday, Oct. 19.

The report attributed the disruption to a fuel shortage that had lasted a week. It said the shortage affected the distribution of goods to retail stores and raised concerns about the supply chain for everyday necessities in different parts of Bali.

For foreign residents and visitors, the practical effect is that some shops may see fewer customers and may face delays in receiving selected products. The report describes a broad retail-sector impact rather than identifying particular stores, products or districts where shortages occurred.

The reported figures came from Aprindo Bali’s monitoring and reports by business operators. The account did not state a recovery date, a government measure to resolve the retail impact or a forecast for when sales would return to normal.
