Jimbaran — Bali Governor Wayan Koster asked online travel agencies and accommodation platforms to require proof of business licensing before marketing villas, rental houses and other tourism accommodation on Friday, 16 October 2026.

Why it matters: Accommodation operators marketing villas, rental houses and other properties in Bali may face licensing checks before their listings are accepted by online travel agencies.

Koster made the request while opening the 15th regional conference of the Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies in Jimbaran, according to Detik Bali and local news reports.

He said platforms should not list accommodation that lacks the required permits. The measure is intended to support fair competition and protect businesses that comply with licensing and other obligations, Detik Bali reported.

Koster also called on accommodation operators and digital marketing providers to help ensure that promoted businesses meet Bali’s regulatory requirements. The provincial government has separately pressed online travel agencies to stop marketing unlicensed accommodation.

Local reporting said the governor’s concerns include villas, rental houses and other accommodation offered through online travel agencies. The request forms part of wider efforts to improve oversight of tourism businesses and prevent operators without permits from competing with compliant businesses.

The request does not itself announce a new removal deadline or identify a specific platform sanction. It sets out Koster’s expectation that licensing should be checked before accommodation is placed in a platform’s marketing system.
