Singaraja — Officials reported on Oct. 19 that a program to rehabilitate 1,200 uninhabitable homes in Buleleng, Bali, was underway at roughly 50 percent average progress and was expected to finish by December 2026.

The rehabilitation covers existing homes rather than new construction. The work is funded through three public budgets: Buleleng regency’s budget, Bali Province’s budget and the national budget. Repairs are tailored to each home and can include roofs and walls.

Why the Buleleng program matters to foreign residents

The program concerns housing conditions across Buleleng, including North Bali communities where foreign residents may live, rent property or visit. In practice, it is a public rehabilitation scheme for eligible Indonesian households, not a general housing-construction program or a benefit available to every resident or property owner.

Balipost reported that national and Buleleng regency funding had already entered the work phase, while the Bali Province-funded component was still undergoing review and budget disbursement.

The scale of the remaining need is based on earlier data that placed about 4,000 homes in the uninhabitable category. After the 1,200 homes included in the 2026 program, an initial calculation left about 2,800 homes still requiring rehabilitation. The Buleleng Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Areas Agency said that figure was not final because officials were updating and checking the data.

Corporate social-responsibility programs were also reported as supporting housing repairs. The government’s stated target was to complete the 1,200-home rehabilitation program by December 2026.
