Why it matters to readers in Sidemen and Karangasem
The incident highlights the risks of steep ravines around rural paths and fruit-growing areas. For foreign residents and visitors, the account is a reminder that locations near villages and agricultural land can be difficult for emergency teams to access, particularly where there are sharp drops and limited routes for vehicles.
Rescuers used a lifting system to bring the body up from the ravine. The operation involved the Karangasem Search and Rescue Post, the Sidemen Police Sector, Karangasem Police, the Sangkan Gunung village military representative, Karangasem Fire and Rescue, the Karangasem Regional Disaster Management Agency, local residents and the victim’s family.
