Denpasar — Bali authorities and Pertamina Patra Niaga will apply an odd-even licence-plate system to subsidised-fuel purchases at petrol stations across the island from 17 to 19 October 2026, Pertamina’s regional communications manager said on Friday.
Why it matters: Drivers across Bali must match their vehicle’s final plate digit to the date when buying subsidised fuel from 17 to 19 October 2026, subject to temporary purchase limits.
The arrangement follows a letter from Bali Governor I Wayan Koster and is intended to speed refuelling and reduce queues during the current supply disruption, according to Pertamina Patra Niaga and local news reports.
Vehicles with odd-numbered plates may buy subsidised fuel on 17 October, while vehicles with even-numbered plates may refuel on 18 October. Odd-numbered plates are scheduled to return on 19 October.
Pertamina also set temporary purchase limits of 20 litres per transaction for four-wheeled vehicles and 3 litres for motorcycles, according to reports citing Area Manager Communication, Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Ahad Rahedi.
The measure applies to subsidised fuel, particularly Pertalite, at petrol stations throughout Bali. The policy was announced as stations faced lengthy queues and traffic disruption amid delivery delays and strong demand.
Pertamina has separately increased fuel deliveries to Bali. The company said additional supplies were being delivered in stages between 14 and 17 October, while operating hours at some stations in Denpasar were extended to help ease queues.
The Jakarta Post reported that queues at some Bali stations reached up to 3 kilometres on 15 October. The temporary odd-even arrangement is scheduled to run through 19 October.
