Karangasem — Fuel shortages disrupted tourism activity in Karangasem on Friday, 16 October 2026, with some hotel bookings cancelled and some visitors checking out early, according to Bali Post and NusaBali.
Why it matters: Visitors staying in or travelling to Karangasem faced cancelled bookings, altered itineraries and early departures on 16 October 2026 because of fuel shortages and queues.
I Wayan Kariasa, chairman of the Karangasem chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association, said some guests left accommodation early because they were concerned about finding fuel for onward travel. NusaBali reported that at least two rooms at Kariasa’s property in Candidasa had been cancelled because of those concerns.
The disruption followed persistent queues at fuel stations in Karangasem. NusaBali reported that traffic near stations in Candidasa was taking about two to three hours to pass, affecting routes through Bugbug, Nyuh Tebel and Sengkidu.
Bali Post reported that some visitors checked out as much as three days early and chose to stay near the airport because they feared difficulty arranging transport from eastern Bali. Kariasa also said the shortage was reducing visits from tourists staying in southern Bali.
The disruption also affected planned trips to other destinations, including Amed, while some visitors changed or cancelled itineraries, according to NusaBali. The reports did not establish a province-wide hotel-cancellation figure or a date for a full return to normal tourism operations.
