Mangupura — Kantor Pencarian dan Pertolongan Kelas A Denpasar is preparing a search-and-rescue contingency plan for a possible aircraft accident in southern Bali. The planning and emergency-area mapping programme is taking place from 14–16 October 2026 at Gedung Werkudara, the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.

The programme was opened by I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of Kantor Pencarian dan Pertolongan Kelas A Denpasar, and has 80 participants from related agencies. Two speakers from the Operations Directorate of Basarnas, Indonesia’s national search-and-rescue agency, are taking part.

Why the plan matters for Bali visitors

The exercise is intended to clarify how agencies would respond if an aircraft went missing or crashed in southern Bali. For foreign residents and visitors, that means the plan concerns emergency coordination rather than a current accident or a change to airline travel rules. The reported scenario involves an aircraft disappearing from radar over the waters near Serangan, in South Denpasar.

Participants are mapping operational areas, identifying resources that could be deployed and setting out procedures for handling an aircraft accident. The discussions also cover search-and-rescue systems, contingency-plan preparation, operational needs and the division of responsibilities among participating agencies.

Retno Budiharto, representing the Basarnas Operations Directorate, said the agreed contingency document would be signed jointly and could strengthen coordination among search-and-rescue resources within the Denpasar office’s area of responsibility.
