Badung — Schools serving PAUD, SD and SMP students in Badung will conduct lessons online from Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, 2026, while teachers and school staff may work from home on duties that can be completed remotely.

The temporary measure follows fuel shortages and long vehicle queues at filling stations in Bali. The Badung Regency Education, Youth and Sports Office said the arrangement is intended to prevent disruptions to learning as students, teachers and other school personnel face difficulty traveling.

Each school may choose the learning platform or communication channel most accessible to its students. School principals will determine schedules and evaluate lessons, while schools must coordinate with the education office if online teaching cannot be delivered effectively because of access limitations or other conditions.

Why it matters for residents and visitors

For foreign residents with children in Badung schools, the change means ordinary classroom attendance is replaced temporarily by remote lessons beginning Thursday, Oct. 15. The policy covers early-childhood education, primary schools and junior secondary schools under the Badung Regency Government. It does not describe a general closure of schools or a permanent change to the academic calendar.

Teachers and administrative staff may perform eligible duties from home, but the education office said responsibilities, coordination and performance targets must still be maintained. The policy is temporary and remains tied to the condition of fuel supplies.

The wider Bali response also includes three days of remote work and online learning from Oct. 15 to Oct. 17, according to separate reporting. The provincial measures were introduced as shortages disrupted transportation and daily activity across the island, with Badung among the areas affected. The Badung education policy specifically applies to PAUD, SD and SMP education and sets the online-learning period at three days.

The reports do not state a further extension beyond Oct. 17. The Badung education office said the arrangement would remain temporary until fuel conditions returned to normal.
