Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation said 1.673 scheduled domestic flights were affected by forest and land-fire smoke between Aug. 11 and Oct. 9, including delays, cancellations or postponements, diversions and returns to the departure airport.
The disruption was linked to reduced visibility at several airports. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was not reported as closed, and Bali flights were not reported as directly suspended.
Why it matters for Bali travelers
Travelers using Bali as a connection point may face knock-on delays when an affected domestic flight feeds into or departs from the island. The impact covered domestic services across Indonesia, including routes serving eastern Indonesia. Ngurah Rai Airport was not identified among the affected airports.
Of the total, 745 flights experienced delays, while 907 were cancelled or postponed. Fifteen flights were diverted to other airports, and six returned to their departure airports, a procedure known as return to base.
The information was reported on Oct. 12, 2026. The period covered was Aug. 11 through Oct. 9, 2026. No new airport closure or separate forecast for Bali connections was announced.
