Labuan Bajo — Haze covered the town and much of Flores on Sept. 29 and 30, 2026. The Komodo Meteorological Station identified the phenomenon as haze, while Komodo Airport said there had been no effect on flights.
The change came as residents encountered reduced visibility across Labuan Bajo and other parts of Flores, and some initially suspected volcanic ash. The meteorological station attributed the condition to a temperature inversion, which can keep moisture and particles close to the surface.
Why the haze matters to visitors in Labuan Bajo
For foreign visitors, the effect was atmospheric rather than operational. Flights at Komodo Airport continued without disruption. The haze extended beyond Labuan Bajo into much of Flores, making local visibility the main immediate concern for people moving through the region.
Maria Patricia Christin Seran, head of the Komodo Meteorological Station, said the haze had been present in Labuan Bajo and across much of Flores. A representative of Komodo International Airport, Marwa, said there had been no impact on flights at the airport.
Tourist-boat operations were not reported as disrupted. No closure or change to visitor access was reported. The event took place on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026.
